In what conditions does a thermostat help you achieve comfort and energy efficiency?

Over 350,000 Romanians have chosen Homplex thermostats – a number equivalent to the entire population of the city of Cluj-Napoca – which confirms the trust in our equipment and solutions.

The thermostat is an essential tool for maintaining an optimal climate and energy efficiency in any space – whether residential, industrial, or commercial.

In Romania, 80% of consumers say they aim to reduce energy consumption. However, studies show that more than half of Romanians (54.2%) choose higher temperatures, between 22 and 24°C, while the rest (45.8%) prefer somewhat more moderate values, between 19–21°C. This gap between declared intentions and actual temperature preferences highlights the need to find solutions that ensure a balance between comfort and energy efficiency.

In this context, ambient thermostats represent a strategic option for optimizing consumption and maintaining thermal balance.

Conditions for using a thermostat to ensure comfort and energy efficiency

Proper thermostat placement is an essential condition for optimizing the operation of the heating system.

This device should be installed in an area free from direct heat sources, drafts, or sunlight.

It is recommended to mount the thermostat at approximately 1.5 meters above the floor and at least 1 meter away from any heat (or cold) source, in order to ensure the most accurate temperature reading possible.

The second important condition is setting the optimal temperature. The thermostat should be adjusted according to the actual use of the space.

For optimal consumption, specialists recommend maintaining a temperature of 21°C in occupied spaces and 19°C in unoccupied areas.

It is important to note that simply lowering the temperature by 1°C can lead to savings of up to 10% on heating costs.

Another essential condition is scheduling by time intervals (possible only with programmable or smart thermostats).

This allows automatic adjustment of the temperature depending on certain times of the day: maintaining an appropriate climate during the hours when the space is in use and reducing heating when the space is unoccupied.

Thus, the system operates predictably and efficiently, reducing energy consumption while ensuring occupants’ comfort.

Efficient equipment and solutions for temperature control from Homplex

At Homplex – as specialists in the comfort sector – we focus on delivering optimal results in our partners’ projects. Achieving energy performance is also a fundamental pillar in the development of our equipment and solutions.

The Homplex portfolio includes multiple types of thermostatssmart, programmable, and non-programmable – designed to ensure advanced control, precise adjustment, and optimal consumption.

Choosing the right solution depends on the needs of each project. For projects where cost optimization is the primary criterion, a manual or programmable thermostat may be a suitable option. On the other hand, for buildings where advanced control and remote monitoring are desired, Wi-Fi or smart thermostats are preferred. These offer greater flexibility and can generate significant savings. Although the initial investment in a Wi-Fi or smart thermostat is higher, it can pay off in about a year.
